3 Indicted in Connection with 2012 Senior-Center Fire

Indictments of recklessness and negligent sabotage were filed, Sunday, against 67-year-old Ephraim Volk and 39-year-old Amitai Kuperman of Bnei-Brak and 65-year-old Yehoshu'a Katz of Elkana in connection with a March 17, 2012 fire at a senior-citizen residence, in which 15 people were treated for varying degrees of smoke inhalation, some requiring hospitalization. Volk was also charged with forging a document, using a forged document and attempt to defraud.

The three are accused of not fixing shortcomings revealed in a fire-department inspection a few weeks before the blaze so the home was operating without a valid fire permit but, according to the indictment, Volk or a representative altered the date on the original fire permit to make it look valid.
