Israel Defense Force Chief of Staff Lt. General Benny Gantz called for a more efficient armed forces in a speech at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya. Many interpreted his statements as a call for a smaller, smarter army.
"We have tanks, planes, and infantry," the top general stated, "but in this era, we must utilize technological advancements. We can be well equipped with a small order of battle, agile, flexible, and ready," Lt. Gen. Gantz stated. He made the comments on Tuesday at the Israel Defense Cyber Initiative conference.
"The nature of war has changed... the most important thing is leadership, you can not rely on technology alone... we must optimize our operations to the utmost to improve capabilities in combat and effectiveness," he added.
