Rabid Puppy in Golan Heights Kibbutz

The Health Ministry reported, Thursday, that tests for rabies came back positive for a five-month old beige-colored female pet dog at Kibbutz Senir in the Golan Heights. The ministry asked that people who may have come in contact with the animal or who have animals that may have come in contact with the animal or strays in the area during the last two weeks to call the health office in Tzfat at (04) 699 4218 or (04) 699 4257, or the health office closest to their residence. After business hours, they should contact their nearest hospital emergency room.

Parents of children who may have been in the area during this time period are asked to clarify if the children may have been in contact with suspicious animals. The ministry reminded the public that anyone who is bitten or scratched by animals should wash their wounds immediately with soap and running water, apply disinfectant and contact health officials to see if there is a need for preventative treatment against rabies. Animal owners are asked to contact veterinarians to check the status of the animals' vaccinations.
