Religious Zionist Rabbis Support Rabbi Yaakov Ariel

The elder rabbis of the Religious Zionist movement decided in a special gathering on Sunday evening that they would support the candidacy of Rabbi Yaakov Ariel for the position of Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi.

The gathering was initiated by Rabbi Chaim Druckman, who has proposed that the Religious Zionist movement will support a bill allowing Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Amar to run for another term as the Chief Sephardi Rabbi, in exchange for Shas backing a bill to allow Rabbi Ariel to run, even though he has passed the age of 70.
