Israel Mourns Passing of Devora Omer

Minister of Culture Limor Livnat expressed deep sorrow, Friday morning, at Thursday evening's passing of author Devora Omer. Livnat called Omer "the greatest writer for children and youth in the history of Hebrew literature." She said Omer's books told the story of the state, "gave unusual expression to values ​​of Zionism and made them an important part of our lives." That importance was reflected in the reaction of Labor Party Chairwoman Shelly Yechimovich, who listed a number of Omer's titles in saying she felt as if she had lost a close relative.

Member of Knesset Shuli Moallem Refaeli (Habayit Hayehudi) said, "In a world of electronic media and fast SMS and text messages, of all things, author Devora Omar was like a fountainhead of culture and creativity which will be preserved and taught for generations."
