Israel Makes it Easier for Gazans to Enter Israel

The Knesset Interior Committee approved provisions making it easier for some resident of Hamas-controlled Gaza to enter Israel. Gaza residents with a permit from the head of the Immigration Authority are allowed enter the country for medical treatment or other exceptional circumstances. The new move conversted a temporary order regarding travel permits into a permanent order.

Member of Knesset Miri Regev (Likud Party) serves as head of the Knesset Interior Committee. She stated, "entry is important in humanitarian cases, for merchants, and for close relatives." Approximately 3,000 Gaza residents have authorized permits. MK Regev stressed that the order should be reviewed to ensure that Gaza residents did not abuse the permits by attempting to engage in terrorist activity.
