2nd-Degree Burns in Meron Fire; Progress on Other Fires

A 70-year-old man was hospitalized, Sunday, as a result of a fire in a grocery store in the central Galilee town of Meron, where the central Lag Ba'Omer observances are taking place at the Tomb of Rabbi Shim'on Bar Yochai. The victim suffered second-degree burns.

Firefighters brought a fire in the Mediterranean coastal plain community of Carmei Yoseph under control after police evacuated residents whose homes were close to the flames. Firefighters also put out a big blaze next to the central community of Yad Rambam, not far from Ramle. A number of houses were evacuated but no injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called to battle blazes in the Lachish area, south of the center. The affected areas included the Derech Darom area of Kiryat Gat and open areas next to the communities of Emumim, Hodaya, Kiryat Malachi and Nir Yisrael. No injuries or damage were reported.
