Csatáry Closer to Extradition for Holocaust Crimes

The Slovakian Supreme Court denied, Thursday, an appeal by László Csizsik-Csatáry of a lower court decision to convert the death sentence imposed on him, 65 years ago in absentia, to a life sentence, paving the way for him to be tried on charges of crimes against humanity. Csatáry is accused of helping to manage the Košice (Hungarian name Kassa) Ghetto and sending 16,000 Jews to their death in the Ukraine and Auschwitz.

The 98-year-old Csatáry is under house arrest in Budapest.
