Samaria Residents Appeal to Fight Rock Throwers

The Samaria Residents Committee wrote a letter to Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu calling for greater deterrence against the recent rash of rock attacks. The call came following this week's Yom Hazikaron memorial ceremonies which mourned both fallen soldiers and victims of terrorist attacks. The toddler who is still hospitalized for head trauma caused by a rock attack has prompted greater vigilance. Committee chairman Benny Katzover stated  "changing the rules of engagement will increase the deterrent and make it clear to the terrorists that the IDF treats rock throwers as terrorists," he said.

Such attacks often involve agitators from the PA controlled regions throwing large rocks at on-coming traffic with Israeli license plates. The rocks can kill either because of a direct hit, or by causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Residents have banded together to greater civilian patrols over the phenomenon.
