Hundreds Touring "Sebaste", Ancient Capital of Samaria

Hundreds of people are touring the town of Samaria (Shomron) in the Samaria district for Yom Haaztmaut, Israeli Independence Day. Sites include the ruins of what was once the capital of the Kingdom of Israel, purchased by King Omri. The site was much later renamed Sebaste by the Roman occupiers.

Visitors are also touring nearby Sebastia, which was once conquered by Alexander the Great.

Jewish groups began the first modern initiate to repatriate the region at the old Ottoman train station in Sebaste in 1976. This eventually morphed into the current communities if Elon Moreh and Kedumim, their first re-build communities in the Samaria (Shomrom) district.
