Israel Welcomes Conviction of Hizbullah Agent in Cyprus

Israel welcomed on Sunday last week’s conviction in Cyprus of a Hizbullah terrorist, who had been accused of involvement in a plot to attack Israeli interests on the Mediterranean island.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry called to add Hizbullah to the European Union’s list of recognized terrorist organizations. The inclusion of Hizbullah on the list and the imposition of sanctions on the organization and its members are critical to the effort to fight the terrorist group’s growing influence in Europe, the Foreign Ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry also stated that the ruling of the court in Cyprus and the investigation of the terror attack in the Bulgarian city of Burgas prove that Hizbullah is infiltrating countries in Europe, in an attempt to take advantage of European soil in order to carry out terror attacks against Israeli targets.
