Iran Hopes to Stop Exporting Crude Oil

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, Thursday, that his country hopes to get to a point where it does not have to export its crude oil for refining. Speaking at the inauguration of the country's biggest gasoline plant, he said, "The number of our oil refineries should double in such a case."

State-run Press TV reports Ahmadinejad said the new plant was proof that the Islamic Republic has achieved self sufficiency in refinery construction and called on the industry to develop fully indigenous refineries, with an eye to exporting Iranian expertise. He criticized Western sanctions on Iran's energy sector.
