Newly elected Member of Knesset Yonatan Chetboun of the Bayit Yehudi party gave his first speech in the Knesset on Wednesday. He defended the Israeli military calling it the last "nature reserve" of Israeli consensus. "I hope you join me as friends from both the left wing and the right wing," MK Chetboun stated.
Regarding the poor and lower class, he added, "everyone talks about the middle class, but let's not forget the poor. We have been preoccupied all these years in handing out fish, but not fishing poles," he said, echoing the sentiments of the Jewish age Maimonides and his famous eight levels of charity.
MK Chetboun was born to Jewish-French parents who immigrated to Israel. He served as an officer in the Israel Defense Forces and studied at the Otniel yeshiva. This is his first term as a Member of Knesset.
