An IDF soldier was arrested in Peru about a week ago on suspicion of possessing drugs.
The soldier left Israel two months ago and has been defined by the IDF as a "deserter," Israel Radio reported.
The soldier was arrested at the airport in Peru after guards suspected he had swallowed drugs in order to smuggle them. He was hospitalized, and the Israeli Embassy in Peru notified his family in Israel about the situation. On Tuesday his family traveled to Peru to attempt to have him released from prison.
