17 Afghan policemen were killed on Wednesday by the local Taliban.
The group was drugged while on duty and then shot to death, in what many claim is the single worst attack in a string of similar attacks against Afghan security forces.
The attack took place at a remote Afghan Local Police post in Ghazni Province, south of the capital.
A spokesman for the Taliban, Zabiullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the attack in an email sent to media outlets.
“Locals in the area were tired of the atrocities and crimes of these arbakais (militias) and their lives and property were not safe,” Mujahid wrote.
“By eliminating these 19 corrupt arbakais, oppression has been weakened and decreased in the area.”
The Taliban spokesman claimed 19 were killed but Afghan police claim 17 were killed.
