Molcho to Stay On as Negotiator

In light of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s declaration that the next government will prioritize diplomatic talks with the Palestinian Authority, Attorney Yitzchak Molcho has agreed to stay on as Netanyahu’s private emissary for talks with the PA.

Molcho will therefore not take part in coalition negotiations, as Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein has ruled that the two positions cannot be held simultaneously by the same person.

During his most recent administration Netanyahu briefly led talks with the PA. However, negotiations broke down quickly as PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas insisted he would not speak to Israeli leaders without a full construction freeze east of the 1949 armistice line, including in Jerusalem and in settlement blocs.
