Israel to Transfer Tax Money to PA

Israel will transfer tax money collected on the Palestinian Authority’s behalf to the PA this month, Haaretz reports. Israel froze tax money transfers in November 2012 after the PA asked the UN to recognize it as a state while simultaneously refusing to negotiate with Israel.

Instead of sending the money to the PA, Israel began using it to pay off overdue electric bills.

Government sources said the transfer of tax money for January is intended to prevent economic collapse during a particularly tough month for the PA. Future transfers will be considered on an individual basis each month, they stated.
