Rabbi Asher Tanenbaum, rabbi of the Givat Shaul neighborhood of Jerusalem, passed away Sunday at the age of 72. He had suffered from a serious illness in recent years.
In addition to being a neighborhood rabbi, Rabbi Tanenbaum served for years as the chairman of the committee of yeshivas in the land of Israel, and was known in the hareidi world for standing up for full-time Torah study in the face of calls to enlist young hareidi men in the IDF.
The time and place of his funeral have not yet been made public.
