Anat Kam's defense attorney, Ilan Bombach stated that he was pleased with the Supreme Court's decision to shorten her pu nishment. He stated, "Kam was not motivated by a desire to harm state security. She had ideological reasons. She wanted the Haaretz journalist to review the documents involving the conduct of IDF soldiers... but she is certainly is not an enemy of Israel."
Kam was given 4.5 years years in prison. Last week it was cut short to 3.5 years. The Haaretz reporter, Uri Blau, fled the country. When he returned, he was sentenced to four months of community service. The documents that Kam stole from an IDF office were used in an expose which Blau printed in order to shame the IDF whom he said had taken down terrorists without due process.
