The Israeli government's chief statistician, Prof. Shlomo Yitzhaki, was unexpectedly fired Monday, via email.
The message, sent from the Prime Minister's Office, stated that Yitzhaki's term would not be extended.
The Prime Minister himself seemed to be surprised by the impersonal and hasty send-off, telling Yitzhaki, "I don't agree with the way this was done and I apologize that this is how things were done. It's not appropriate, a person needs to hear about his resignation in a different way. I'll find out how it happened. I wish to thank you for the years in which you served your country."
