Member of Knesset Nachman Shai said, Sunday evening, "It is the right and even the duty of the president of the state to express himself on the matter of peace."
Referring to President Shim'on Peres's call for talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority on the basis of two states for two peoples, the Labor candidate for re-election said that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his government "do not promote peace and as usual also attack the president every time he makes a statement contrary to their positions. They did so on Iran and then had to capitulate and apologize. The president is right to require our diplomats to promote peace before a world that does not trust us. [There are] three elements of the state of Israel: Jewish, democratic and peaceful society. Therefore, we have to talk about peace. "
