Supreme Court to Weigh Disqualifying Hanin Zoabi

On Thursday, the Supreme Court will weigh the decision on whether or not to disqualify Member of Knesset Hanin Zoabi (Balad Party) from running in the upcoming Knesset elections. MK Ofir Akunis submitted the application to disqualify her. He stated on Wednesday, "I hope that the Supreme Court will set a red line... MK Zoabi flagrantly violated the law when participating in the Mavi Marmara and violated the Basic Law of the Knesset. She has no place in it."
MK Zoabi is Israel's first, and so far only female Knesset member from the Arabic speaking community. She has publicly castigated the State of Israel on numerous occasions and is suspected of secretly meeting with Hamas affiliates. This is in addition to boarding the Mavi Marmara ship in the flotilla of 2010. However the Supreme Court may decide that disqualifying her is undemocratic.
