Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar joined the media assault against Jewish Home chairman Naftali Bennett, who raised a fury of anger recently by saying that if he were ordered to expel Jews from their homes, he would ask his commander to be released from that duty.
Sa'ar spoke out against Bennett on Saturday, saying that Bennett should never have said such a thing. "We live in a country that can not survive a minute without the Israel Defense Forces and the IDF is built on the execution of orders from the political leadership," said Sa'ar.
"It's not right for a public figure who should be leading by personal example to talk about refusing an order...To put one's own world views above democratic principles is something very serious. Specifically in a heterogeneous society like Israel, democratic principles and keeping democratic rules is what holds us together."
