Energy and Water Minister Uzi Landau decided, Monday, to approve a storage permit for natural gas from the Mary-B reservoir in order to increase the readily available supply of natural gas to the public. The decision follows one, made in October, to add compressors to the treatment facilities in Ashkelon to increase the supply from the Tamar field.
Monday's decision is expected to increase the amount of gas made available each year to 60,000 MMBTU. Among the conditions is Third Party Access, which will make the use of the storage available to other suppliers. The move is also expected to contribute greatly to operational flexibility in the SWING system for producers of electricity and other additional consumers. It could result in a savings of 2.5 billion shekels in 2015-2016 compared to diesel prices and NIS 1.3 billion compared to liquified natural gas prices.
