MK Ariel Works for Pillar of Defense Compensation

Chairman Uri Ariel of the Knesset State Control Committee said, Sunday, that he will hold a joint hearing with government representatives and issue a protocol of organized, agreed-upon steps during the next two weeks to accelerate payment of compensation to individuals and local governments for damage sustained due to Arab terror during the recent Pillar of Defense counter-terrorism operation in Gaza, with practical steps for similar situations in the future.

Speaking at a committee meeting he convened to address delays in compensation payments, the Tekumah party lawmaker called on the state comptroller to check what is being done for the residents of the south and why the compensation funds have been delayed. He called the state's behavior "a national crime", explaining, "Just as we don't leave soldiers abandoned on the battlefield, we don't leave the residents in the homefront abandoned on a battlefield of bureaucracy."
