The Knesset Finance Committee approved a budget of 106 million shekels for the 34 different parties taking part in the 19th Knesset elections. The concept is to level the playing field so that every party, regardless of how large or well-established the party is. According to the he Knesset - Research and Information Center, "the law concerning non-public contributions is extremely strict and limiting. The basic principle behind this policy is the principle of equal opportunity for the various lists running in the elections."
