The kibbutz of Givat Brenner in central Israel got a new Torah scroll on Tuesday. Members of the kibbutz purchased the scroll, which will be used alongside an older scroll donated in memory of fallen soldiers from the agricultural community.
The kibbutz belonged for many years to the socialist Hashomer Hatzair movement.
The acceptance of the new Torah scroll was “very moving,” said Rabbi Efraim Shteinkoller, the rabbi of the kibbutz’s one synagogue. “This was a rare event,” he added.
