Sewer-Contaminated Vegetables Destroyed in Even Sapir

The Health Ministry announced, Sunday afternoon, that it supervised the destruction of vegetables that had been contaminated by sewage in the community of Even Sapir, in the Mateh Yehuda Council region, west of Jerusalem.

Following complaints of the smell of sewage in the community, an inspector for the Nature and National Parks Authority found that a pipe from a septic tank was spewing household sewage into water that was used to irrigate fruit trees that were not bearing fruit, as well as a quarter of a dunam/one-sixteenth of an acre on which the vegetables were grown. The finding led to an order by a district doctor to destroy the vegetables.
