Esther Pollard Disappointed by Lack of Activity

Following the return of Jonathan Pollard from hospital to prison infirmary, pending the results of MRI tests, his wife Esther called on President Shim'on Peres, over the weekend, to act without delay to save her husband's life by using his connections in the United States by acting to advance a presidential pardon, which would cut Pollard's life sentence for passing classified information from the U.S. to Israel. Pollard spent a week in the hospital after he collapsed, two weeks after starting his 28th year behind bars, more time than anyone has served for helping an American ally, and more than recent time served for helping enemies of the U.S.

Rabbi Pesach Lerner, who is spearheading efforts for Pollard in the U.S. asked, "What is Peres waiting for?" The Committee for Pollard denied rumors that Pollard was near death, adding that while he was weak and his condition was dangerous, it was not life-threatening, and the public should not spread rumors that hurt the family.
