Report: High Court Halts Work on Fence Near PA Village

The Supreme Court has issued a temporary restraining order against construction work on the security fence next to the Judean Palestinian Authority village of Batir, south of Jerusalem, according to a Tuesday-morning report by Kol Yisrael government radio. The court was responding to a petition by the village council and 87 of its residents, who claim that erecting the barrier will harm their agricultural land. The Israel Defense Forces and the government were given two weeks to respond.

On the Jewish side of the fence, opposition for agriculture reasons has also been expressed by the mayor of Beitar Ilit, the head of the Gush Etzion Regional Council, the Kfar Etzion Field School of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel and the Nature and National Parks Authority.
