The Ministry of Energy and Water has begun a new project under which the government will subsidize part of the cost of switching from electric water heaters to solar-powered water heating. The ministry previously subsidized select changes from old, energy-inefficient refrigerators to new ones, and to more efficient air conditioning.

The government will assist in the purchase of solar-powered heating, paying up to 35%, or 900 shekels, of the cost. Those supplying the new systems will be required to give an 8-year warrantee.
