Elections for the position of Chief Rabbi, which had been set for March, are to be delayed for at least three months, due to the Knesset elections scheduled for January. The ten year terms of Chief Rabbis Shlomo Amar and Yonah Metzger are due to expire in March, but in order to enable the committee that chooses the rabbis to work without pressure, it was decided to allow the two to continue on in their posts.
No date has yet been set for the elections to take place, the committee said.
