Speaking Monday, United Nations-Arab League Joint Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Al-Ibrahimi said that the fighting in Syria between rebels and government troops was “a threat to Syria's neighbors and to the entire world.” However, he said that he was not yet convinced that UN observers needed to be dispatched to Syria.
Al-Ibrahimi is set to travel to Egypt Monday night to discuss his plans for imposing a cease fire in Syria. UN Secretary-General Ban ki-Moon said that Al-Ibrahimi was set to travel to Syria itself “soon.”
