Deputy Health Minister Ya'akov Litzman on Monday fired the Chief Pathologist of the Israel Forensice Institute, Yehuda Hiss. In addition to the firing, Litzman is transferring jurisdiction of the Institute from Assaf Harofeh Hospital, which had been responsible for it, to the Ministry itself.
The decision to fire Hiss came after the family of a woman who was killed in a terror attack sued the Institute for negligence, after discovering that body parts that had been removed from the woman's body in an autopsy after she was killed ended up buried – in the same grave as the terrorist who murdered her. The lawsuit names the Institute and Hiss, who has been involved in a number of scandals over the years that he headed or worked with the Institute.
