Most of the indices on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange finished the last of four holiday-shortened weeks with modest to sharp gains, Thursday. The TA Composite Index closed at 1,064.94, up .88 percent, while the TA 100 rose .91 percent to 1,077.22, including a .87-percent gain to 1,216.86 by the Maof 25 most-widely-invested issues. The 50 stocks outside the TA 100 advanced seven tenths of a percent to 375.44.
Leading the gainers was the insurance index, which jumped 2.94 percent to 967.54, followed by the bank issues, which finished the day at 1,064.35, up 2.13 percent, as the financial institutions rose 1.97 percent to 942.88. The real estate stocks closed at 273.26, up 1.27 percent, and the Ma'ala organization's index of socially-responsible companies advanced 1.13 percent to 808.14. The oil and natural gas index closed at 1,071.56, up .74 percent, followed by most of the technology stocks, which rose .73 percent to 355.45, while the biomed index declined .45 percent to 755.45. The communications and media issues slipped .04 percent to 486.51.
