MK Nachman Shai (Kadima) spoke at the Knesset Economic Committee session on the closure of Maariv newspaper. “The government has been systematically de-legitimizing the media for years, with statements castigating it and laws curtailing its freedom. As a result, the public is indifferent to the collapse of Maariv, unaware of the blow to the media and its contribution to Israeli society.”
