      Police Ward Off Rioters in Shuafat


      Approximately 200 people rioted in Shuafat, in northern Jerusalem on Wednesday, according to AFP news. "About 200 youths threw stones and firebombs at the checkpoint, they were warded off by forces at the site who used tear gas," police spokeswoman Luba Samri told AFP.
       
      Shuafat is a northern neighborhood of Jerusalem that straddle the PA border. A middle class well-to-do neighborhood of mostly Arab-Israelis its situated next to a lower class neighborhood. Both are adjacent to the mostly Jewish Pisgat Zev neighborhood. An ancient synagogue was found in the neighborhood during archeological excavations
