Employees of the Maariv newspaper got support Wednesday from MK Michael Ben-Ari (National Union). “Maariv must not shut down,” Ben-Ari said on his Facebook page, in a post he noted is likely to be controversial.
Maariv, like other papers, has many left-wing reporters and “hypocrites who praise the freedom of speech but… would never put me on the air,” he said. However, he continued, “[Maariv] is professional, most of its workers aim to provide balanced coverage, and it has a wide range of opinions. Similarly, you won’t find an anti-Zionist agenda or political campaigns.”
In addition, he noted, Maariv employs “two thousand workers who mostly earn an average wage.” The workers must not simply be sent home with nothing, he declared.
