Social Protest: Oil Cheaper, but Israeli Prices Up
Members of the Forum for Social Justice are protesting Tuesday evening at eight gas stations along major roads. The group is seeking to raise support for its cause among the many people driving home Tuesday after staying with family for the Rosh Hashannah holiday.
Protesters plan to pass out pamphlets stating that 52% of the price of gas in Israel is tax. “Was it always like this? No! In July 2008 the price of a barrel of oil was $145, and the price of a liter of gas was 7 shekels. Now, the price of a barrel of oil is $96, and the price of a liter of gas is 8.25 shekels,” the pamphlets read.
