High Court to Discuss Zoabi and Salah Roles on Marmara

A three-judge panel of the Supreme Court is scheduled to hold a hearing, Monday, on a petition by the Eretz Yisrael Shelanu movement, headed by Member of Knesset Michael Ben-Ari (National Union), against the decision not to prosecute Member of Knesset Hanin Zoabi (Balad-National Democratic Assembly) and Sheikh Raed Salah, head of the northern chapter of the Israel Islamic Association, for their role in the attempt of the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara to break the naval blockade of Gaza in 2010. Activists attacked and held Israeli commandos who boarded the vessel, with many injuries on both sides and nine activist deaths resulting from the incident.

The petition cites countless incidents where people who were present at demonstrations and attacks on police were prosecuted even though they did not attack or demonstrate. The petitioners claim the respondents' deeds were serious and decision not to prosecute was purely political.
