Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz said Monday that he would seek to defer the debt owed by Channel 10, in order to allow the station to continue to operate. Steinitz met Monday night with Channel 10 management, Histadrut chairman Ofer Eini, and Communications Minister Moshe Kachlon.
In a statement, Steinitz's office said that he sees great value in ensuring that a number of television stations are in operation. The option of being able to choose between stations encourages pluralism and democratic values, Steinitz said. However, he added, the stations had an obligation to fulfill their financial commitments to the State of Israel and its citizens.
