Policeman Fined, Reprimanded for Illegal Teargassing

Police commander Ilan Malka was fined 5,000 shekels and given a severe reprimand, Sunday, on convictions of illegal use of force, perjury and causing a false deposition in connection with an incident during the recent building freeze in the Samarian Jewish community of Yitzhar.

Malka was convicted for spraying tear gas from point-blank range at a demonstrator who had positioned himself at the wheels of a police vehicle to prevent it from proceeding with someone who had been arrested, as well as a demonstrator who lay handcuffed on the ground. He also convinced a subordinate in the Police Investigation Unit to write a false report that described Malka's actions as correct.
