Memorial for Yitzchak Sadeh on Monday

The Israel Defense Forces are scheduled to mark the 60th anniversary of the passing of General Yitzchak Sadeh, Monday evening at 6:00 in the cemetery at Kibbutz Giv'at Brenner. A decorated soldier in the Russian army during World War I, he helped Yoseph Trumpeldor found the Hechalutz pioneer movement between 1917 and 1919, according to Wikipedia. He came to the Land of Israel a year later.

Hazaken, as he was known, was a commander in the Haganah pre-state militia who helped found the Palmach pre-state militia as well as the first armored brigade of the Israel Defense Forces, from which he retired in 1949, after the end of the War of Independence and the dismantling of the Palmach. He turned to writing and the development of the Hapoel sports organization. The August 20, 1952 date of his death corresponds to the 29th of Av, which was Friday.
