The United States and its allies are examining a scenario where tens of thousands of soldiers will be sent to Syria to secure the non-conventional arsenals in the country after the fall of President Assad, an unnamed U.S. diplomat said Thursday.
According to the diplomat, this is one of the most serious scenarios discussed during secret meetings on the matter. In this scenario, Assad's forces would cease to function, leaving the arsenals exposed without protection.
