At least eleven people were killed Saturday in fresh fighting in a suburb of Damascus. The fierce fighting saw forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad attempting to retake the area, now held by rebels, using armored vehicles.

Witnesses said that the vehicles and tanks entered the area after three straight days of heavy shelling and fire from helicopters. The witnesses said that the rebels have so far been able to retain their hold on the area.
