Seven soldiers were indicted Tuesday for beating and injuring a younger soldier, Channel 2 reports. The seven say they hit the young soldier as part of a tradition of hazing-like behavior meant in jest, and did not mean to cause him injury.

The soldiers’ commander has been questioned. He told investigators that he took the incident seriously, and just recently spoke with other commanders about the importance of enforcing rules against violence within the ranks.
