Spokesman Yoav Mordechai of the Israel Defense Forces said, Sunday evening, that one vehicle exploded near the Kerem Shalom Crossing, shortly after a terror attack on Egyptian army forces near Rafah and another car was hit by Israeli helicopter fire after it entered Israeli territory. He said Israeli soldiers had closed the area and were carrying out searches, there was no sign of additional terrorists and troops were in touch with Egypt.
Mordechai said the event had not ended, although Chief of Staff Benny Gantz had finished an assessment of the situation with a number of generals. He told area residents to follow the instructions of the Homefront Command. The brigadier general called the incident very serious, adding that air and ground forces in the area were being increased to prevent other incidents. He said the IDF did not view the attacks as connected to the afternoon's elimination of two terrorists in the Rafah area.
