Dozens Arrested in Social Justice Protests

Police on Saturday night used force to break up two violent demonstrations in Tel Aviv by social justice activists. Demonstrators blocked main roads for several hours, when police charged the crowd and broke up the protest. Participants in the two demonstrations shouted curses at each other and even attacked participants in the other protest at one point.  Dozens of people were arrested before it was all over.

During the demonstration, a protester threw a tear gas grenade at police. The perpetrator was arrested. Depsite predictions of far more, only several thousand participants joined either of the two demonstrations, both demanding more money and affordable housing and condemning the government for its latest tax increases and for failing to ensure that all Israelis serve in the IDF.
