Annan's Six-Point Plan for Syria Still in Place

Deputy Secretary-General Ahmad bin Hili of the Arab League told Al-Jazeera, Friday, that the six-point program for Syria, drawn up by former Arab League/United Nations envoy Kofi Annan was still in place, despite Annan's announcement, Thursday, that he was resigning the position out of frustration at Russia and China's refusal to cooperate with the rest of the UN Security Council to act against the Syrian government's violent suppression of dissent, which is being resisted militarily by opposition forces.

The UN and Arab League have begun their search for a replacement. Annan's mandate expires on August 13th.
