US Supports Moment of Silence for 1972 Munich Victims

Spokesman Tommy Vietor of the United States' National Security Council told Yahoo News, Thursday evening, "We absolutely support the campaign for a moment of silence at the Olympics to honor the Israeli athletes killed in Munich." Officials of the London games, which start next week, have refused to make the tribute part of the opening ceremonies, explaining there will be other opportunities to mark the 40th anniversary of the murder of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches by Arab terrorists.

Vietor's statement followed President Barack Obama's telephone call to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to express condolences over Wednesday's murder of five Israelis by a suicide bomber in Burgas, Bulgaria.
